London Entertainment

When it comes to fun and interesting things to do, it is difficult to top London entertainment. From the art and theatre scene to the many museums and operas, London entertainment is alive and kicking. There are many areas of the city to enjoy the various forms of London entertainment from the trendy bar and nightclub scene in Soho to the many film theatres in Leicester Square; London has it all.

London has always had a thriving theatre scene that dates back centuries and is still one of the pre-eminent cities in the world for live theatre. There are four repertory theatre companies that put on their own shows, which have many classics, especially Shakespeare, and modern plays. The Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal National Theatre, Royal Court, and The Globe Theatre offer plays and musicals for the sophisticated taste. The "West End" does not refer to an area in London, but the theatres that are found on or in the vicinity of Shaftesbury Avenue and Charing Cross Road. Other shows, all around the city, are referred to as "Off-West End" and offer many other smaller plays and experimental theatre.

The art scene is, at the moment, very popular with new young and hip artists that only add to the classic art in the city. Some of the major galleries are The National Gallery, the Tate Gallery, and the modern Institute of Contemporary Arts. There are many other art galleries around the city that feature all types of works and from different eras.

London also has a music scene that ranges from classical to more modern music, such as punk rock, alternative, and hip-hop, just to name a few. If you are looking for London entertainment of the classical music variety, you can find the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Centre and the Philharmonic at the Royal Festival Hall. The Royal Albert Hall has a classic music festival that is held annually and lasts thorough the summer. Camden is a great area to see some more modern music. Soho has many clubs, as do many other areas in the city, but if you want to see a future hit band before they pack stadiums, you can head over to The Brixton Academy.

London entertainment possibilities are endless, as it is hard to find something NOT to do. The highlights mentioned are just a small portion of the many things to do in London. There are also many comedy clubs, dance halls, operas, nightclubs, and cinemas, showing everything from blockbusters to small independent films, all strewn about the city.
