London Transport

The London transport system is one of the largest in the world and composed of the London underground, referred to as the "Tube," and buses. Both of these give access to anywhere around central London. There are other modes of transportation in the city such as car, train, and taxi. London also features five airports that service the city.

Transport to London by air couldn't be simpler with the five airports that service the city and the surrounding areas. Heathrow International is the largest, and busiest, airport in London, but there are also Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, and City Airports. Luton and Stansted have many flights from budget airlines and are becoming increasingly more popular.

The easiest form of London transport can be the underground. The underground is the most commonly used form of transportation in the city, and it is also the fastest way to get around. The Tube takes some time to learn how to find your way around, but when you get to know the system, it can be easy to use, fast, and inexpensive.

Among London's most famous sights are the large double-decker buses that travel to all the major tourist attractions throughout the city. The buses are a part of the London Transport bus system, which is a network that has in excess of 17,000 bus stops around the city and surrounding areas. The buses are not only red, as they feature several other colours, but the red buses are the ones that have become a moving landmark in London.

A good method of transport to use if you are visiting Greater London and further is to go by car. With a car you can see all the quaint towns of the English countryside and stop when you want for a cup of tea or to have a bite to eat. In the city, especially central London, driving can be much like driving in most metropolitan areas, congested. Not to be forgotten though, is the congestion charge taken from motorists that drive through inner London. It can seem like driving a car in London would be a disadvantage, but there are many car parks available all around the city. Much of the car parking on the street is restricted and given to local residents.

Two other forms of London transport are by train or taxi. London has a well-established system of trains, as the city is a major hub for trains travelling throughout the country. Taking a train can also be a very relaxing and scenic way to travel. There are two types of taxis in London: London's Black Cabs and licensed Mini Cabs. London's famous Black Cabs are metered and the driver of the cab cannot charge more than is shown on the meter. It is not difficult to get a taxi in London.

With the extensive London transport options available, there is never a problem getting anywhere in the city.
